মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় সম্মুখ সমরে পাকিস্তান সেনাবাহিনীর সঙ্গে লিপ্ত হওয়ার জন্য ৩ টি নিয়মিত ব্রিগেড গঠন করা হয়। ব্রিগেড গুলো হলো -
১. লে. কর্নেল জিয়াউর রহমানের নামানুসারে জেড ফোর্স
২. লে. কর্নেল খালেদ মোশাররফের নামানুসারে কে ফোর্স ও
৩. লে. কর্নেল কে এম সফিউল্লাহ - এর নাম অনুসারে এস ফোর্স ।
